Freshman & Sophomore Year

Interior Design

Sketches of a living room with varying shadows highlighting different points of the room

I wanted to begin this website with what I joined Texas State University originally for and that was Interior Design. Above there is a sketch of my work that I did during my Freshman Year of college. I did this during the Spring semester of my first year. I enjoyed this experience as it taught me different skills that became valuable with my current major especially with being detail oriented.

I enjoyed working with the different mediums and perspectives of Interior Design. In a way, I felt like the organization and color theory that was used during my time as an ID student helped me with what I am studying now as at times it can rely heavily on design, brand, typography, etc. Although I did not follow this path, it was a path I was glad I took nonetheless.

Digital Media Innovations

LinkedIn Learning certificate awarded to Ashley Vazquez

This image on the side is when I began to work within my current major. I learned a lot of valuable skills for not only my career but daily practice. This specific course and certificate taught me proper digital etiquette, meaning it taught me how to send emails professionally, stay on brand, and be a reliable worker. I will say it was scary to jump into something new at first but from the start I loved what I do.

With Digital Media Innovations, I had more freedom to create designs that I wanted. It was obviously still following an organized template or rules but I could integrate my own style into what I was creating. This especially became important when I began to work at the Student Recreation Center. Branding was one of the most important things I learned. I had to market to a specific audience mostly students but remain within the image that the Recreation Center wanted to represent. Even then, I was still able to work in my style with those branding rules. It's very special to me now to work within what I see my future being and to see my designs be shown within the building.
